Food safety program
If a school class 2 canteen conducts one or more high risk handling processes outlined in the Definitions section, a food safety program(opens in a new window) must be prepared by the canteen. Safe Food Victoria has a free standard food safety program template for use by class 2 premises, refer to FoodSmart(opens in a new window).
It is recommended that the food safety program be completed by an appropriate person with knowledge of the specific processes that the school canteen undertakes, for example, the food safety supervisor. If a school is unsure of food safety program requirements, they can contact their local council(opens in a new window) to seek advice.
If a food safety program is required, it must be lodged with the local council at the time of registration and annual re-registration.
