Flexible Work for Classroom Teachers funding
2025 program
The Flexible Work for Classroom Teachers initiative is available in 2025 to support teachers in a job-share or part-time arrangement. The funding will allow eligible teachers to have a cross-over day with their job-share partner or will support a new or increased part-time arrangement. The initiative aims to support schools to facilitate flexible work arrangements to promote work-life balance.
Available funding
Under this initiative, the Department of Education (the department) will provide a grant of $20,000 to support a classroom teacher in an eligible flexible work arrangement for up to 12 months. Up to 300 grants are available in 2025.
All schools can apply and receive funding for up to five flexible work arrangements. The department aims to ensure that a diverse range of schools can access this initiative and submitting an application does not guarantee funding.
Multiple rounds of funding may be offered depending on availability.
Funding is available for up to 12 months. Schools that wish to continue flexible work arrangements for classroom teachers after this time will need to fund this from their existing budget.
Eligible arrangements
The following arrangements are eligible for funding:
- a crossover day in a teacher job share arrangement (substantive reduces to part time)
- creation of a new role (to cover teacher/s non-classroom facing responsibilities e.g. yard duty)
- timetabling arrangement (arranging timetable to allow teachers to work from home one morning a week)
- other- schools can propose flexible work arrangements in line with the Flexible Work policy.
Application process
The principal for the relevant school should submit the expression of interest (EOI) form confirming that funding will be applied to an eligible flexible work arrangement.
To register your interest in funding during the 2025 school year or for any questions please contact swg_policy.initiatives@education.vic.gov.au.
Please note that submitting an EOI for funding is separate from a flexible work application made under this Flexible policy.
If funding is received under this initiative, the staff member will still need to complete a flexible work application.
For any questions, please contact swg_policy.initiatives@education.vic.gov.au.
