Annual Report to the School Community

School performance summary for the 2023 Annual Report

There are a number of updates to the structure and measures used in the performance summary this year to reflect changes to NAPLAN reporting, reporting for the perception surveys (the Attitudes to School Survey (AToSS), School Staff Survey (SSS) and Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGOS)), and measures related to the senior secondary reforms.

NAPLAN

In line with 2023 changes to NAPLAN reporting, the measures reported in the performance summary of the Annual Report have been updated to align with the reports on PanoramaExternal Link (staff login required):

  • 2023 NAPLAN measures will report on the percentage of students in the Strong or Exceeding proficiency levels
  • 2022 NAPLAN measures will report on the percentage of students in the top 3 bands
  • The 4-year average measures of the percentage of students in the top 3 bands will be removed, until 4 years’ worth of data is available under the new NAPLAN reporting methodology.

All NAPLAN measures will continue to be reported at the school, similar school and state levels.

Perception surveys

As outlined in the November 2023 School UpdateExternal Link (staff login required), the department has made a minor change to the calculation of results in the Attitudes to School Survey (AToSS), School Staff Survey (SSS) and Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGOS), such that the ’percentage positive endorsement‘ may increase a little, compared to previously available 2019 to 2022 data. For more information about these changes, refer to Update to the calculation of student, staff and parent opinion survey results (PDF)External Link (staff login required).

In addition, the parent satisfaction measure included in the performance summary has been updated to report the percentage endorsement of the PCGOS factor ‘General school satisfaction’. Previously, the measure of parent satisfaction was an average percentage endorsement across 10 PCGOS factors.

Senior secondary certificate reform

In line with the introduction of the new VCE Vocational Major (VM) and the Victorian Pathways Certificate, the Senior secondary section of the performance summary now reports on the:

  • Victorian Senior Secondary Certificate completion rate, which includes VCE and VCE VM students, at the school, similar school and state levels
  • number of students awarded the VCE Vocational Major
  • number of students awarded the Victorian Pathways Certificate
  • VCE mean study score at the school level.
