9. Supporting young people participating in the Enhanced Bail Supervision and Support trial
The Youth Justice Act (2024) established a 2-year, metropolitan based trial of Enhanced Bail Supervision and Support (EBSS), which includes:
- new supports for young people on bail, including additional youth justice case officers who will provide practical and outreach support to young people (including after hours), new youth work and family supports (including after hours), lived experienced mentoring and enhanced case management practices
- the option for electronic monitoring of curfew and exclusion zone conditions, using a Smart Tag device worn on the ankle.
If a young person is being considered for EBSS, Youth Justice will advise DE Justice Education and Engagement Branch Managers and central teams, and an EBSS Education Planning Summary will be developed alongside the existing Youth Justice processes to inform the EBSS suitability assessment process.
The role of schools in the EBSS trial is explained further in the below resources.
