Overview

Teaching service

The Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2017 commenced on 22 August 2017 with a nominal expiry date of 30 April 2021.  This agreement applies to employees in the Government teaching service (executive, principal, teacher, para professional and education support classes) employed under Part 2.4 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006.

The Department has now commenced bargaining for a new enterprise agreement to cover employees that are employed in the Victorian Government Teaching Service under  Part 2.4 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006.

The Notice of Employee Representational Rights (the Notice) is a formal requirement under the Fair Work Act 2009.  The Notice in respect of the proposed Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2021 and frequently asked questions can be found in the Resources tab.

Protected Industrial Action

Under the Fair Work Act 2009 a protected action ballot of members of a union is required before industrial action can be taken.  Following an application by the Australian Education Union (AEU), for a protected action ballot, and the conduct of that ballot, a majority of AEU members voted in favour of the taking of industrial action.

The Australian Education Union (AEU), has notified the Department of a variety of industrial actions involving principal, teacher, paraprofessional and education support class members.
