Overview

The Department of Education is in the process of bargaining with representatives of employees of the government teaching service for an enterprise agreement to replace the Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2022.

On 27 January 2026 the Australian Education Union was granted a Protected Action Ballot Order. A majority of AEU members voted, by ballot, in favour of commencing industrial action.

On 13 March 2026 the AEU provided the department with formal notification of its intention to commence industrial action in the form of stop work action and work bans.

Only AEU members can participate in protected industrial action.
