Overview
Casual relief teachers (CRTs) are casual employees engaged by school councils under Part 2.3 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006.
Information about employment of CRTs can be found in the CRT Employment Handbook under the tab.
Principals and School Councils should also be aware of their obligations as a Public Sector Employer to avoid or manage Conflict of Interest in employment. Further information can be found in the conflict of policy on the Victorian Public Sector Commission website.
Casual Relief Teachers Panel
From 19 April 2021, schools that wish to engage an agency for the provision of casual relief teachers are required to use the Department's Casual Relief Teachers Panel arrangement.

Information sheet for casual relief teachers
An information sheet has been developed for schools to provide to casual relief teachers employed by school councils. It is strongly recommended that the Information Sheet - Casual Relief Teacher be provided as least once a year to each person employed as a casual relief teacher by the school council.
