Policy and Guidelines

The Department acknowledges that the giving of blood is a valuable community service and supports employees participating in blood donation programs.

Teaching service employees may be given permission by their principal or manager to be absent from duty to donate blood. Wherever possible it is expected that school based employees will arrange their absence at a time when students are not in attendance or at a time that suits the operations and needs of the school. This includes accessing mobile Red Cross services when they are in the local area. The principal or manager may require proof of attendance.
